THE ESCALADES AT ORILLIA*****Susan's Blog

August 31st, 2007 (01:44 pm)

Mr. Escalade and Ms Escalade are residing at Hammock Harbour in Orillia Ontario. The Escalades have brought with them--Susan, Jim, Catherine, Bryan, Mittsy, Charlie and Cocoa. The Escalades and their crew have all decided to stay until Thanksgiving (or maybe a little longer) depending on the weather.

Hammock Harbour is across the Narrows (the channel linking Lakes Simcoe and Couchiching) from where we used to dock our cruisers for many years.
It is the place where Catherine first drove her dinghy and met Regina.
The place where they grew up causing problems and commotion whenever they could.
It is the place where we all forged many, many happy memories.

Hopefully, we will be forging many different and happy memories at Hammock Harbour this month.

DOUBLE RAINBOW OVER MISTY RIVER*****Susan's Blog

July 13th, 2007 (10:27 pm)

First the sun came out, finally.
Then the rain came, with the sun still shining......
followed by, not one rainbow,
but a double rainbow.
Beautiful!

About two hours later the mist rising from the river behind
us was very eerie as the sun set.

A lone young man fishing as darkness descended.

THE SINKING OF MS E.*****Susan's Blog

July 12th, 2007 (08:25 pm)

Jim had today off. We both slept in until 9:00 am! After getting up at 5:00 am every morning, this is sleeping in. A very lazy morning and I assumed Jim would want to just ‘do nothing’ all day.
Nope.
Jim went for a short walk and discovered that someone had vacated a site just down the road. It was huge and right on the river.
So....pack up, hitch up and drive about 200 feet down the road and back in and set up. That was the plan. Simple.

Well the first problem was the rain that we have had and had and had. As we backed the rv in, Ms Escalade started to sink on one side. Now we were listing more than that first site we had when we arrived.

The buckets of
rain arriving.

Another problem..more rain. It started coming down in buckets.
But...Jim wanted this site, so......soaking wet we unhitched and headed quickly to Kirkland Lake to the Home Hardware so we could purchase a 2 x 8 (cut in half). Made it with just 5 minutes to closing. Got back, hitched up rv, and backed up one side on two four foot long 2 x 8’s on top of a double row of levellers. It worked! Hope the ground doesn’t sink anymore.

back window
just after sunset

I have to admit though. It is so much better here. All our windows face the river. The sun will be coming in all day (if it ever comes out).

We have a couple of duck
families already visiting
and spending the night.

Only problem is we still have only 15 amps. We do have 3 plugs available to us, if we had the splitter.

**********

P.S. We turned on our air conditioner, just to see what would happen. It worked fine, did not blow the fuse. Of course everything else was turned off. Doubt if the a.c. will ever be needed here though!

A CELL CONNECTION and DAY & NIGHT VIEWS!*****Susan's Blog

July 11th, 2007 (12:24 am)

After a very frustrating time trying to use the internet at the local library (with no success), I passed the time, while waiting for Jim to finish work, by going to the local dollar store. In the same mall there was a store selling electronics and CELL PHONES! I walked around and thought it over. My cell from Florida does not work this far north, I need it for emergencies etc. etc. I did it. When I picked Jim up later I was surprised that he thought it was a good idea too.... especially when he heard his daughters voice later. lol

PUSH ME!*****Susan's Blog

July 10th, 2007 (06:22 pm)

I did a lot of paper work today. Cleaned up a little. But the sun was shining (rain never materialized), so I went for a bike ride down to the lake. They have a playground there with four very large swings. I couldn’t resist. I sat swinging for about 20 minutes...it was so relaxing. I had forgotten how much I love a swing!

Reminds me of the story my Mom always told about when we would go on our holidays ‘up north’. As I mentioned before, I hated those holidays. A lot of the time we used to go to one particular cottage and the ONLY thing I did like there was the very large swing they had hanging from a very large tree. Mom said I would sit on that swing by the hour and beg any an all persons passing by to “Push me, push me”. LOL

*****************

This is only day three of fourteen and already I am suffering withdrawal.
Two Canadian tv stations and no internet..bad. But, no phone service either...too much!
Eleven days left!

TOURED CAMPGROUND*****Susan's Blog

July 9th, 2007 (02:30 am)

Apparently, it has rained here for the last two weeks. Last night it rained hard almost all night long. But the sun came out today and it was warm, so we went for a short bike ride around the campground.

Perfect weather for bike riding.

Rain predicted for the next week though. :-(

Bar-b-qued hot dogs for lunch and sat outside in the sunshine (while it lasts) to eat.

We then went into Kirkland Lake to do a little food shopping and to see if any place sells ‘blue boys’....no luck. Seems you have to drive to Earlton (about an hour away) to get anything for an RV. We then went to the dollar store to buy paper and plastic so we can avoid filling the grey water as much as possible.

***************
I am writing this at 11:30 p.m. Jim is sound asleep, as 5:00 a.m comes very early. He says he does not ever remember getting UP at 5:00 a.m in his life. Going to bed then yes, but not getting up! lol
************
It is now 2:00 a.m. I was going to stay up until 5:00 a.m. working and have breakfast with Jim and then sleep, but I dont think I am going to make it. lol
